NEW ZEALAND GOOD FOOD GUIDE

About Us

Our Philosophy

The wishes and needs of our members are the guiding principles behind our approach.

Designed as an essential navigational and rating accomplice, the Good Food Guide has long been acknowledged as one of Australasia's trusted dining and travel authority, encompassing both metropolitan centres and the smaller townships that lie in between.

For us, it is not just about setting the standard — it’s about lifestyle; a world that has much to do with class, distinction and personal taste. The Good Food Guide is your invaluable accomplice in planning the perfect trip away, or simply the perfect evening.

Our History

The Good Food Guide shares a proud history that began in Australia in 1977. Two years of research and compilation saw the release of the nation’s first comprehensive restaurant, accommodation and travel guide in 1979 — a concept inspired by the great European guides of Michelin and Gault Millau.

While the brand was born in Australia, New Zealand has long been part of its story. From early print editions through to the early digital era, the Guide has consistently showcased Aotearoa’s world-class Chefs, restaurants and destinations.

Today, with the relaunch of our dedicated New Zealand platform, we continue that legacy — pioneering principles and values that establish the Good Food Guide as a respected authority across the Tasman and beyond.

Since the launch of our website in 1999, our audience has grown exponentially and now, with renewed focus on New Zealand, we’re proud to once again shine a spotlight on the best of Aotearoa’s dining and travel experiences.
